Day 40-11: Tiengen, Switzerland

47.8 km
Ride details

We stayed overnight in Switzerland. Our Gasthaus (Guest house) had the shared WC and the shower down the hall.
Drivers are not as courteous to bicyclists. And we need to ask for help, whereas in Germany people just kept popping up wanting to help. Such an incredible difference. Prices are twice as high along the Swiss border as well.

So when we left this morning we decided to ride on the German side of the Rhine and anticipated a hill after crossing the river. (On a very cool covered bridge. Since was raining when we were having breakfast we put in some rain gear.

Best day ever. Weather was cool. Rain went away. Roads were paved the entire route.
Not too hilly. Stopped at a bike shop with a mechanic who figured out I needed a new chain. Lucky it was working at all. Much better ride now.

Wow! Fancy Hotel also. Balcony. Couldn't be much better than this.

  1. You're doing some major pumping and putting in a lot of miles to wear out a chain... Of course you have four 10 pound panniers, the bike and yourself to push down the road. You're very strong.

  3. JoAnn, did you know Schaffhausen is my hometown? We were out in Pacific City without internet, so I did not realize you were that close to where I was born. Just wondering if you went through it and if the covered bridge was a Diessenhofen????

Diessenhofen? My google translate won't give me a translation.
Schaffhausen, certainly means more now, beautiful waterfront and the path to the falls was a challenge...I walked up .
