Pyramid Falls

Only viewable by train. A protected waterfall where humans are not allowed.

Rocky Mountaineer

Luxurious train travel. There are 4 options for routes. We are on the Journey through the Clouds( Jasper, Kamloos, Vancouver). We have a cloudless sky today. Gourmet food for breakfast & lunch, a narrative pointing out significant geographic features & a continuous drink service. The train cars are meticulously clean. Built in 2009.

Jasper

Toured the lakes of Jasper National Park. The storm is gone leaving a cold clear day.

Detour

We woke to a winter wonderland. Snow closed our short route, so we are spending the day taking an 8 hour detour without our planned sightseeing.

Majestic Rocky Mountains

I've never seen the Rockies up close! Today we did a bus tour to Lake Louise and Lake Moraine. The warm bus was a welcome relief from the mountain cold every time we got off the bus for a photo opp.

Fun fact: the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks is larger than PEI. A place that is very familiar!

Banff: Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel

This historic hotel was built as a railroad hotel when the railroad first came to Banff. There is a hotel at each major stop along the Canadian Railroad line. Passengers traveled on the train during the day and stayed at these giant hotels each night. The hotel emerges from the forest as a huge exposing structure. I made a much needed visit to the fitness room (after sitting on a bus most of the day). I walked on the treadmill overlooking a valley between rocky mountains. Magestic.

Meeting the Rosarians

Joined the Rosarians at the Calgary airport for a new segment of our journey. We are definitely tourists now.
This is an official trip in honor of this year's Prime Minister (Kimberly Bown) and the motivation for our entire Canada trip.

We got s view of Calgary's sprawling landscape as we left the airport and began our journey. Houses stuffed together in huge developments covering the prairie landscape. No urban growth boundary here.

Our itinerary includes staying in 5-star hotels, riding a luxury tourist train & a guided bus trip.
Some of the snow remains in the mountains as we made our way to our first night stay in a mountain resort.

Kananaskis Resort Lodge

Arrival, luggage delivery, dinner, sleep, breakfast, then on to the next location.
