Travel by train

I always say that riding on Amtrak is a chance to see the backside of America, but in addition to the littered back alleys of urban areas the train provides the opportunity to see places that are difficult to get to any other way.

Traveling along the Mississippi River for miles, Around the foot of Mt. Shasta, Point Defiance, are just some examples, & the frozen Potomac.

So different to see the place that I have been on my bike wending up the Youghiogheny river. The river is twice as high and the hills are much smaller than they appear to be when the foliage covers the view.

Minnesota is a quiet place when it is covered in snow on a beautiful sunny day. The snow has been continuous since the Rockies. It has stayed well below zero also. I missed out on a shower, since the hot water stopped working in our car overnight. Spit bath to the rescue!

Woke to a winter wonderland.  

Advantages of the train are many, but one is seeing places that you can't enjoy any other way.  Our route occasionally parallels highway 2, when it's not meandering into the remote hills.  Absolutely lovely.
