Florence...my experience

Florence is the art capital of Italy and described by everyone as a place to not miss.
Even so, it was probably my least favorite place I've been to on this trip. 2 mitigating factors were the extremely hot weather and that I was there by myself.

I don't think I look real happy.

Seeing the original statue of David was awesome experience. Riding around on the hop on hop off double decker buses was fun and actually kept me a bit cooler. Tour of the Uffizi Gallery with Boticelli, Michelangelo and Leonardo Davinci, were done by a very knowledgeable guide who brought the Medici Family and their love of art to life. The Florence Pass tour was the best tour I've had with guides that were very informative and of course, I walked lots!

Guernsey, a channel island.

Cold morning air made me want to stay under the warm covers this morning, a feeling I haven't experienced on this entire trip. Guernsey is cold, cloudy, windy and has a few sprinkles today.
It is about one half the size of Washington DC and includes several smaller islands. It is a British Crown Dependency and not part of the UK or the EU. The UK is responsible for its defense. During WW2 it was occupied by Germany.  Winston Churchill refused to come to its defense. By May 1945, when they received relief both the residents and the Germans were starving.



An "honesty box".


We walked for several hours along the northern coastal path that follows the perimeter around the entire island. There are beautiful sandy beaches between surreal rocky areas.
For several months I've been used to hearing languages that I don't understand. Now that I'm in an English speaking country you would assume that communication is better...hmm.

We stayed in a wonderful AirB&B for 2 nights.
