Day 7: to Morganfield

Day 6: 64 mi

Riding the Land between the Lakes was blissful, with the exception of the saddle I’m using.  Not a good fit for me.  It’s very hard & uncomfortable.
2 nights in a row without Emily’s food for dinner.  She is a wonderful cook who makes food to everyone’s peculiar tastes & diets.  She is pretty amazing.

Rest Day

image0.jpeg

A much needed day of rest.

The Lodge at Paris Landing State Park. Very nice…for a state park.  It was built after the work on the Tennessee River in the 1940's.  But the 4 story resort/hotel looks new. The dam created the Kentucky Lake & a water world for Tennessee and south Kentucky.  Boating & touristy water fun on a huge lake.  The resort has the Lodge, camping & cabins as well as golf & hiking trails.

I went to town (Murray, KY & picked up a sandwich for dinner today & tomorrow's breakfast.  The best places don't necessarily have the best food.

"It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle." ~Ernest Hemingway

Looking across the horizon the trees are even so you assume the terrain must be flat.  It's not flat. Lots of muscle building rollers.

Distance is getting longer each day.

Hurricane Mills is the home of Loretta Lynn. A restaurant with her name is closed, of course.

Finished before the thunder and lightning that interrupt the cooks plans so she had to go buy pizza.
I had a great salad.

Breakfast

What we have a lousy hotel and a minimalist breakfast our cook provides steel cut oats with raisins and walnuts. Even the best hotels don't do that and the oats are often instant. So I guess I have to be grateful for an occasional lousy cheap hotel.

UGRR—-Day 1

Day 1: Counce to Savanna TN
41.4 mi
I missed the tour first day. 79 mi and lots of rain & stormy, so I'm grateful I missed it.
So I'm keeping track here of days I ride.

Today included Shiloh National Historic Site. Commemorating lots of battles during the ciivil war. Some of the signs had exact times for battles like 10:00 to 1:00 pm on…
Wars are so crazy.
