Approaching Southampton

We are approaching our final two days at sea. So far very calm seas. A very fortunate crossing of the Atlantic.
Everything is done with a nostalgic overtone as each activity is done for the last time.

We have been served for 63 dinners meals by this thoughtful pair of waiters.

Last port: Praia da Vitoria, The Azores

Memories of Martin's (David's brother) time here at Lajes Air Force Base filled our heads today as we walked around in this beautiful island. Cunard provided a shuttle from the ship to the towns center. Emerald hills surround this very European village, with church steeples towering over stucco houses trimmed with bright colors.
We had a 6 mile walk including a climb up to the Miradouro do Facho viewpoint.

Sea days

Lots of sea days over the next couple of weeks.  We sail directly east from Charleston with stops in  Bermuda and The Azores. That means 9 days at sea.    Sea days are pleasant routine with lectures, exercise (chair-arobics is a great core workout) & craft (a chance to get ship news and gossip) classes in between eating.  David competes in a decathalon event (10 events with a 4-person team). Classical concerts every afternoon.  Evening live entertainment, from comedians, singers, dancers, We walk on the deck unless it's too cold and/or windy.  Occasionally high seas creates a rocky ride, but neither of us has been seasick so endless watching the sea as it changes color & shape is always interesting.   

Each day the captain has a noon time announcement.  In Fort Lauderdale the Commodore was replaced by a captain and everyone thought how much having a Commodore would be missed.  However noon announcements have won us all over to this very young and charming captain.  Each announcement is ended by words of wisdom.  Today's was a good example to share, " Money isn't everything, but it does keep you in touch with the children."

Shoot!  We have been hearing about the cold and snowy conditions in England.  Slightly different than the spring conditions we expected for our walk on the Thames.  

Hmmm!  A true adventure lies ahead for us.
