Albany NY: 3 days

Day 1: Walked 6 miles today.   21,775 steps

Took bus into town and walked around the Empire State Plaza.  A legacy of Gov Nelson Rockefeller.

A picture taken by Liana!

Then basically walked the length of the city through varied ethnic urban neighborhoods. I'll walk a long way just to experience another Whole Foods.

Returned to hotel by bus.

Day 2:  5,580 steps

Visited the State museum of NY.  Amazing free museum currently housing exhibits from 9/11/01,  the Erie Canal, Archeology of Albany...and so much more.  Liana drove up to spent a day with us & even though she hasn't slept since yesterday afternoon she stuck with us the whole time, & didn't fall asleep.

Day 3:  Working to get in 10,000 steps while waiting for our evening train to take us back to Chicago, then PDX.

Latham to Albany to end our journey

20 mi

Amsterdam to Latham

Amsterdam to Latham (about 10 miles from Albany)

34.4 mi

5 miles on S5 NY state bike route and all the rest on a paved path.  The Erie Canal Heritage Trail signs still guide us, but we are on the Mohawk-Hudson Trail.

We've seen lots of Halloween decorated homes along the way.

Nature is reclaiming even the expanded canal of 1862. The Canal behind us not used since 1918, but the path remains...many sections for snowmobile riding Dec 15 to Mar 20.

The upper level nearing lock 8...getting close to the end.

Up a hilly narrow road to an out of the way Super 8.   Walked 2 miles round trip to "Market Bistro(Price Cutter).  Got dark and used cell phone torch for safely walking the dark shoulder back. Shower, veggies and good night's sleep.
