Being tourists

Walked about 7 miles today with a visit to Kew Gardens. They have more species than any other garden in the world. It was a beautiful spring day.
David ventured up to do the tree walk & I declined the opportunity.

Walking The Thames Day 21 DONE

225.8 miles walked. 21 days of walking. A bit more than the 184 mi that should be the length of the path, which means the extra miles were miles it took to get to accommodations as well as miles we walked when the path was flooded. We are already planning our next walk.

We have 2 weeks 'til Nic & then Liana arrive.
We are making plans to go back in the next couple of weeks to the 3 places where we did big detours due to flooding. The river is still too high and running too fast for boat traffic. David will continue his training routine. A 5-hour run yesterday means a rest day today, but we will still do lots of walking.

19 days until the race. The Thames Path 100. The primary reason for this giant trip. So I probably won't be writing much. We will be walking around the Richmond area, eating as healthy as possible (fruit, veggies, grains & beans) and being tourists in this amazing city. Hoping to watch a bit of the London marathon, ride a boat on The Thames, and visit some museums and English gardens.

Walking The Thames Day 20

11.0 mi Abingdon to Oxford

Absolutely beautiful sunny day in England. The first half of our walk was a sloppy muddy mess. The last half was ideal with mowed grass and a paved path. It was actually a bit hot so we shed some layers. The problem of course is that means we have more to carry.

This walk has been a pretty amazing journey. It has been particularly insightful when I realize David & I don't usually have so much time that we spend together. Our marriage of 47 years has been filled with work, school, children, home repairs and remodels. Spending this much time together without distractions has been a unique experience. We are enjoying each other's company.

We are staying at a guest house, rooms only, no food, so we need to go for a walk to find some food.

Did I mention that David carries most the load, to be more accurate David carries ALL the load a lot of the time. I have learned to live with very little!
