Peter Sis has written several children's books about Praha. I will re-read his books with a better understanding now that I have been here. Our Czech host family was incredibly kind and helped me to understand what they (the parents (both very creative Architects) married the year the regime changed) endured under the communists...an incredible family. There lives reflect their strong Christian (Catholic) beliefs. They are a minority in the Czech Republic where 80% declare themselves atheists.

Warm Showers makes this bicycling experience so much more meaningful than it could possibly be staying in hotels.
Trained it from Praha to Tábor with compartments like right out of a Agatha Christie mystery.
Totally not enough signage or knowledge of the Czech language. We spent two days in a bubble of security. Now we are back to reality, thank you GPS so we know where that little dot is on a map we can't read. We DO generally know what direction we want to go.
Tábor looks very much like I imagine a former communist controlled community would look like. The large ugly apt complexes dominant the hillside next to commercial areas. We are staying at a lovely home with a room for rent €27 for the two of us.
Mary is brilliant at finding inexpensive, clean, interesting (and sometimes not up a hill) places to stay.
