March 22

From El Paso to Fort Hancock
48.6 mi
roadkill: opossum

Verizon works here...but does cut me off so I need to be quick.

Ride began in urban El Paso, then to Mission trail route, turn right onto State Highway 20 for rest of flat road through scrub desert and agricultural land planted with alfalfa and onions, pecan orchards and plowed filled ready to be planted.  Started out at 9 this morning in 41degree clear skies. Ended with 77 degrees and hazy film of clouds over most of the sky.  I'm grateful for the flat road, but it does seem to make the riding longer and a bit more boring.

We were encouraged to take our time today, since Ft. Hancock isn't much to look at.  Last night I could look out to El Paso and the lights on the border fence.  Tonight I'll look at Interstate 10 and hear the sound of freeway traffic through the night.
