Walking The Thames Day 18

13.8 mi Pangbourne to Wallingford

Up a paved hill down a muddy narrow path to avoid a geographic feature called The Gap. Not a drop of rain, but the path was a long slow slippery muddy slog. I'm so grateful to my new boots. David said he's grateful too, since there were no complaints.

Rained overnight, but no rain today. These wellies are heavy so my quads are getting a good workout. David is carrying most of the weight, so walking is a tougher workout for him. Still a hard walk. When I estimated our distances I couldn't get the exact route so I cut some corners. My estimated miles for each day are always less than reality. Today included the only hill on this walk with a 528 elevation gain skirting around an area that used to have a ferry crossing and The Gap.

When there was a village we were on paved streets and narrow walled, fenced or hedgerow enclosed alleyways. Wallingford was originally a Roman walled village and shows each stage of English history to today.
Our innkeeper is young and proud of his pub with rooms. Feels like staying in his home. We carefully removed our muddy boots and will be sure to leave little evidence in this lovely room.

Our routine is the same each day. We arrive at the hotel. David goes out for a run. Then we eat.
Most pub meals have been just right.

Walked by a paddock for training horses with a large mirror. The perfect selfie.
