11 mi Datchet to Maidenhead
Beautiful chilly day with no clouds. No rain, but lots of mud and with the river at flood stage there were lots of flooded spots. On this very cheery day, we didn't mind some extra walking.
Stopped in Eton (the village across from The Queens Castle in Windsor & home to Eton College where the political elite send their boys)at a Costa coffee shop across a pedestrian bridge.
The other highlight was seeing Dorney lake the site for rowing competition at the London Olympics.
By afternoon the temperature was comfortably warm. A "lovely" day for a walk in England.
We met a fellow walker who is training to walk the Camino next month in Spain. John worked on the Thames for 42 years so he shared some insight into what we should look for ahead of us. One site was an old bridge famous for having the longest span made of bricks. It's also echoed with beautiful resonance as we walked under it.
Many of our hotels have been next to train stations, but there hasn't been any noise overnight. The trains are electric and make very little sound. Of course we are tired so we wouldn't hear them anyway.
Maidenhead is quite "posh", the rich & famous live here. We saw some pretty amazing properties as we walked along.
