7.7 mi Staines to Datchet
Walked by Runnymede a place honoring the signing of the Magna Carta.
Weather was blustery and more threatening that materialized. So our walk was pretty comfortable in spite of a very muddy path. These neoprene socks David found keep our feet dry even with mud covered shoes.
Datchet is a picturesque village opposite Windsor Castle. Queen Victoria has the path on the castle side of the river closed off and built two bridges. We crossed the Albert bridge today and will cross back to the other side tomorrow on the Victoria Bridge. Albert designed both of the original bridges.
Our room is typical of the ones we have stayed in. The room is just big enough for the bed and little else. Rooms are in odd shapes so that as many rooms as possible can be carved out of the space available. The hotel has an English pub with the traditional sugar and fat laden English breakfast. Cold dry cereal with milk followed by eggs, sausages, bacon, beans, a crispy hash brown, grilled tomato, fried mushrooms, black pudding (all usually dripping with oil) and white or brown toast.
Black pudding is also called blood sausage so you can guess its content.
Not very appealing to us these days, though some might have been at an earlier time.
