We decided to stay on the outskirts of Passau to avoid making the ride too long in the heat. We arrived at our hotel in time to avoid the thunder (loudest I've ever heard) and rain downpour which cooled things off quickly.
It was another beautiful easy ride today. Our guide (an ebook on my phone) had us change river sides to avoid a busy highway so we had 2 Faery rides on little boats used only go bicycles and pedestrians.
This route between Vienna and Passau is paved and well signed & vey popular. We are seeing lots of large groups of bicycle tourists from boats & buses. Occasionally we here them speaking English.
We greet people as they ride past:
"A low" : The Dutch- hello
"Morgen": German- morning
"Hollow": German/Austrians- hello
"Ah hoy": Czech - hello
Silence: the Hungarians (& no smiles)
I get the most comments about my helmet mirror. I usually can't say much, but an older man asked me to write down the place to buy it, so I gave him my card and wrote the website. Since it comes from Vancouver Washington, it might be prohibitively expensive.
Pictures sometimes won't load on Hotel wifi, so I'll have to add them later.
