April 17 - Saturday

From Wiggins to Pascagoula, Mississippi
69.2 mi

This Saturday ride had very little traffic.  We spent most the day riding in the De Soto National Forest.  Some rolling hills, but not much elevation gain compared to yesterday's of over 1800 ft.  Pam keeps track of that statistic so I'll ask her later.

I rode and stayed with Rita, Mike, Alayne and Linda the whole ride.  I don't think I slowed them down since our average was 14.1 which is the best I've ever done for this length.  I did lots of drafting so the day wasn't physically difficult.  I'm grateful for their company and for the group including me.  Found a restaurant for lunch that actually served Hummus and pita bread.  Can't get much better than that!

Oh, have to mention my motivation for keeping with the group today.  A big bridge coming in to Pascagoula, that I didn't want to ride over alone.  My imagination is always bigger than reality, but I just zipped over it.  Guess I'm getting a bit stronger and although I'll always have a fear of high places I certainly am not letting that get in the way of doing what I want to do...with supportive people around it is possible to do just about anything.  They stayed at the top to take pictures so I imagine Rita will have some pics on her blog.
Not sure where they find these motels...they all seem to be on the downward slope of their existance...none the less they usually have character.

Arriving in Pascagoula brought memories of our first year of marriage and living in Mobile  flooding back.  All the years in between seem to melt away.  The feeling in the air, the nearness to the Gulf.  We had a pretty good first year together here, so the memories are very positive.
My bicycle tan...on my wrist
