Got up early, caught a train (@6:21) to Krems, then got on a boat to Melk, and did a ride to Grein.
We wanted to experience the Danube from the vantage point of the water for at least one segment. So Mary got an inexpensive voyage from Krems to Melk. This one is also a beautiful ride on the bikeway...but choices have to be made.

The thing about paying a cheaper rate for everything means you don't feel guilty that you paid for a disappointing experience. A crowded noisy boat full lots of people, but a place to sit in the shade.
In Melk we finally found the trail along the river. Although the temperature was in the 90's it felt cool next to the river on paved bike paths. We are seeing more and more cyclists. This portion of the Danube has been a popular holiday destination for many years.
We have a picturesque seen from our hotel as we look back down the Danube at Greinburg.
