Day 8: Little Orleans to Hancock, MD

17 mi
No Verizon service since we left Pennsylvania, so I'm dependent on Wi-Fi when available.
We have stayed in nice places. There was a spectacular sunrise, from our B&B overlooking the valley with a view of three states, Pennsylvania, Maryland & West Virginia. Little Orleans is an area more than a town, one gas station, one diner and two B&Bs.

Food has been a significant issue on this trip. This morning, there was a Hugh spread of all you could eat buffet. I ate fruit & an oatmeal casserole (I think it had butter, so sweet my heart started racing). Everything is high fat and laden with dairy (eggs, milk & cheese). No beans, greens or whole grains to be found anywhere. My dreams or nightmares last night were filled with visions of eating healthy and shopping at Whole Foods. When I get to Georgetown first place I go to will be Whole Foods.

We are staying at a B&B in Hancock, the narrowest spot in the state.
The Western Maryland Rail to Trail, all paved parallels the C&O for 22 miles here. So far we. Stayed on the historic C&O. It's been pretty nice on my very comfortable bike,,,rough spots not a problem. It really is all down hill, less than 1%, but down. Easy, peasy!

  1. You'll work off the butter easily. 42 miles is short to you, but still several thousand calories used!
