Day 11: rest day in Memphis

Spent day being a tourist. Visited Graceland. I'm sure it is making lots of money for Lisa Marie, Elvis' daughter.

It really isn't as big as this picture suggests. Decorated as it was when he died Aug 26, 1977, walls in rooms that he played and entertained in are covered with cloth.

He certainly was a talented musician.
Next we visited the bike shop to pick up tubes for Monika and another patch kit for me.
The Civil Rights museum was our next stop and the hotel where Martin Luther King was shot.

The museum is built into the backside of the motel.
From the way Memphis looks with the crumbling sidewalks and streets and abandoned falling down buildings it doesn't look like we have come very far since he was shot. Somehow naming streets after him across the country seems so meaningless.

Lots to see here, Beale Street , Sun records...
Time to rest for tomorrow's ride.
