Day 18: rest day in St. Louis

View from my room.

The weather is like a summer day at home, a breezy day in the
70's.
The highlight of my day was a Mississippi River boat ride.

It was an hour of great info about the river. From here on we are traveling next to the "upper" Mississippi. There are 37 locks between here and Minneapolis, used by barge traffic. On the lower Mississippi barges are up to 35 pushed by one tug. We saw one today that had 16. The Mississippi is definitely a working river and major transportation route.

The bridge we rode over into St. Louis yesterday is the oldest bridge on the entire river.
We had lots of opportunity to view and take pictures of the Gateway Arch.

  1. we went by one of the locks - remember washing the 'gumbo' off our bikes, because we tried to take a shortcut across a construction area and got stuck in it - memories......!
