Roadkill: deer
Started out on Hwy 334 Ranch Road expecting to be inundated by traffic on this chipseal road with no shoulder. The chipseal wasn't bad...everything is relative to the worst, bumpiest surface of yesterday's ride. There was no traffic, except our SAG car that met us at 15 and 29 miles. Passed entrances to one ranch after another, most with ornately decorated arches over the gated entrance. Our SAG driver reported seeing Long-horn cattle, but the rest of us missed seeing them. Rode with Sue, tonight's roommate for the first half. She's fast so I had to keep up and she did a bit of coaching about gear changing and cadence so I could. I'm learning a lot...it is just putting it all into practice that is the challenge.
Interesting birds along the way, but no bird experts in this group...every bird interested in the roadkill become a "Turkey Vulture". Got a picture today...okay Liana can you identify it? or maybe someone else. Comments are always appreciated. I think I've fixed this blog so you don't have to login to comment.
Lots of goats along the way today, some sheep and cattle. Lost Sue when she stopped to try to communicate with a Black Angus...

That's a Texas sparrow. Trust me, I've been there.
ReplyDeleteYour Brother.
Wow JoAnn -- what a great picture -- I'm not sure what it is, but its a beautifil bird
ReplyDeleteNice picture! I'm pretty sure its a Black Vulture, the shading on the wings isn't right for a Turkey Vulture, and they have longer tails.
ReplyDeleteLiana
Hi Joann, I* have started reading your blog and am enjoying it. I and Liz Gill have been doing a diary when Tom and Bill are riding across the country in May. They ride for about 500 miles each year and are now in Eastern Kentucky. Liz & I drive the sag wagon. This year they intend to finish the ride, about 700 miles to go until they get to Williamsburg, VA. Tom isn't anxious to confront the wild dogs and coal trucks in the Appelatians. They used a lot of canine pepper spray last year.
ReplyDeleteWe have been down here in the Palm Springs area for 3 months and head back to portland tomorrow.
Happy Riding, Shirley Sagerser
i concur with liana. and amongst the other things i'm impressed by is that someone can put 120 psi in a bike tire. way to go joanne. stevec
ReplyDeleteAnd my tire hasn't lost any of that air since I had that flat. Lucky me!
ReplyDeleteAnd riding 500 miles a year sounds like a good fun way to do it, especially the northern tier. We are half way today...its all down hill from here!!!
