GAP West Newton to Ohiopyle

43.3 mi
Since this is a railroad trail, it appeared to be flat, but very slow going.

Today our tires softly crunched dried leaves, accompanied by the drip and occasional rush of rust colored spring water from the cliffside on our right. Across the river canyon to the left a fast clacketing freight train's triad horn overwhealmed all other sounds...and then it was gone. A deer stood silently on the trail bed as we stopped and a few mosquitoes buzzed a round our helmets. We did have to work to make the steady gradual climb to the Eastern Continental divide, still two days ride away. Several high trestles connecting the quarry fines covered old track bead, but just don't look over and enjoy the smooth boards bridging the spaces. As we rolled into Ohiopyle, the rain started...just missed us.
