One of the great things about Amtrak dining is that they will usually provide a meal I can eat. Salad, baked potato and steamed green beans, nothing added.
The Empire Builder into Chicago was 8 hours late so we had the great experience of riding through the empty 1 a.m. streets to our hotel. (80 degrees also) 6 hours & 15 minutes later we were back at the station to board the train for our first destination. Sedalia MO.
Chicago is a hub for the train travel, so we will come through here 3 times on this trip.
All trains from the west come through here.
I love walking around Chicago, exploring Millennial Park, visiting Daley Breast Cancer Survivor Park (Maggie Daley died from breast cancer in 2011), visiting Whole Foods or eating at one of the many restaurants. One of these times I want to do a Segway tour here, but we always seem to be in a hurry to move on or the train is late, so we haven't had enough time.
15 mi of bicycle riding between home, hotels and train stations since we left home.
