Coquimbo is the gateway & port city for the area. A previous mayor build churches for each kind of religion, but the mosque was the only one pointed out to us.
4,700 km route 5 part of the PanAmerican highway runs the length of the achilean coast.
This region is a Semi arid climate with 91 mm rain/ year. Agriculture: grapes, papaya prolific, copper, gold. Tourism season runs from Nov to April.
Main Street is paved while side streets are packed dirt. Middle class homes have high fences & gates, while poorer barrios look much like favelas of Brazil. Electrical wire are running everywhere. Being in these areas makes me appreciate the regulations that is often disparaged in the US. We are so fortunate to have infrastructure that is uniform & regulated. Building codes either don't exist or are ignored. Lots of buildings with corrugated metal.
