Zurich

Our first totally urban big city. Has a majestic feeling of oldness. They have light rail and street cars. Feels a lot like Portland, without the pedestrian controls. Everyone walks across tracks every which way. Rail drivers wave us across ahead of them. We always try to use crosswalks, otherwise we just have to follow the crowds. Everyone is patient and obey the traffic signals when they are there. There are definitely plenty of people here.

Walked around the old city and found a buffet restaurant in a department store that felt like the old Meier and Frank. Stayed at Hotel Central Plaza just across the river from the train station ( Zurich HB)

  1. you know I lived in Zurich from 1962 to 1965. It did not have this many people then, but the trolleys and the fantastic train system have been there and are even improved since the. Don't you love a train station with shopping facilities? The underground trains are all new. The subway system was built after I left, I think its simply amazing to see all those train tracks and all the people using the system.
