Day 6: Cumberland: rest day

Had to rest from the strenuous riding we've been doing. :)
We are staying in a B&B near downtown. Cumberland is extremely impoverished. Barely 22,000 people live here. It is listed as 305 in a list of US cities with 318th the poorest by per capita income.

I rode the historic (last used in the 1950's) steam powered train from Cumberland to Frostburg today. It travels next to The GAP and gave some panoramic views we couldn't see from our bikes yesterday. There was a Fireman stoking the coal powered engine just like my dad did in the early '40s.
Frostburg lived up to its name today, 65 degrees was a refreshing change from the muggy heat of the last few days.
The GAP in this area follows the National Road through the mountains. It was the first federally funded road.

Engine turned around here and then hooked to what was the back. They turned all the seats in each coach car also.
