Even a bus tour can be good with a great guide. We went to the Chacchoben Mayan Ruins site about an hour away from the port. One of more than 400 sites that are known n the Yacatan Pennisula. This was partially excavated, so it is easy to see how it wasn't really preserved until the 1980's. There are many Mayan descendants still speaking Mayan as their native language.
