Wednesday October 27

Layover day in Ocracoke Village on Silver Lake which is the only wide spot on Ocracoke Island

Tootled around the village on every rideable road and totaled 8 miles.  Started itching everywhere and realized I was being eaten by mosquitoes.  They seem to love me and it reminds me how fortunate I am to live where mosquitoes are rare.

This island is pretty isolated with supplies arriving on the  ferry's schedule.  No one seems to grow gardens. One community grocery,  like a mini-mart.,  The only natural resource I suspect is fish. Definitely a tourist destination. The weather is hot(81 degrees) and (steam bath) humid today.
Pelican on a post in Silver Lake (its really a bay off Pamlico Sound)
